About shareAnywhere

Developed by T-Mobile, shareAnywhere is an application designed to help businesses share information about products and services with customers and colleagues wherever they are. Use it to automatically compress image files into a Brochure-like slideshow, complete with your company branding. The Brochure presentations are synchronised with a central web-repository (www.share-anywhere.com), which can be controlled and updated by anyone in the office – meaning the latest and most up-to-date images/files are used by those working on the move. The app is designed to allow businesses to present information such as their credentials, or a new product or pitch, easily from their mobiles. It is intended to be helpful for visual demonstrations when there is not the time or facilities to present from a laptop.

To get started you need to:

  1. Download the app using your Android phone.
  2. Visit www.share-anywhere.com and register your account

1. Get the shareAnywhere Android app

To install the shareAnywhere app, search for 'shareAnywhere’ on the Android Market using your Android phone (it won't work from any other device).

2. Registering your account

Once you have installed the app on your Android phone, you’ll want to start creating your Brochures. Register an account at www.share-anywhere.com to get started.

Creating a Brochure

To create a Brochure go to the Home screen and click new Brochure box. You will be prompted to choose a Title and ID for your Brochure.

The title can be whatever you want. Enter something which describes your Brochure's content. The ID is important because it will be typed in by each user when they download a Brochure. Try to keep it short and simple, lowercase is good as the ID will be case sensitive when typed in.

Once you've created the Brochure you will be taken to a new page which contains the slides which make up your Brochure's content. Click the Add New button to add a new slide. In the new page, there is a file upload dialog you can use to choose an image file from your computer. Select an image file and press upload to add a slide to your Brochure. Repeat for as many slides as you want to create.

Downloading a Brochure to your Android phone

Start the app. Then select My Brochures. Click the Add Brochure button to show the add Brochure dialog. Enter your Brochure’s ID into the text field, and then press the Get Brochure button. The Brochure will be downloaded in the background. You can monitor the progress of your download through the standard Android notification area (drag down from the title bar at the top of the screen).

As soon as the download is complete, your Brochure will appear under the Add New Brochure button on your Android phone. Click on it and select view to begin viewing your Brochure.

Supported Content

shareAnywhere currently supports the following content types:

Supported media: Images - .jpg, .png, .gif etc
Unsupported media: Video, Audio, Presentation files, e.g. .ppt, .odp, pdf etc

Ordering Slides

The order that slides appear in on the shareAnywhere app can be changed. To start changing the order of slides in a Brochure, press the edit button on the Brochure you wish to modify. You will be presented with a list of slides that the Brochure contains. Below each slide are four arrow buttons. Two arrows moves the slide to the end of the Brochure, one arrow moves the slide one place in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Slide Descriptions

Once you have added a slide to a Brochure, you can enter a brief description of the slide which will be shown on the shareAnywhere app. Simply enter your text in the text field underneath the slide while editing your Brochure. Press the save button to update the Brochure's description. This text is limited to approximately 140 characters.

Synching

Once you have one or more Brochures on your phone, you can easily update slides to get the latest changes to Brochures. If you have lots of slides to update, navigate to the shareAnywhere main menu and press the Update Brochures button, which will initiate an update of every Brochure you have on your phone. Alternatively you can select Brochures individually for updating. To do this, click on a Brochure in the list of Brochures, then select Update. In both cases, the Brochures are updated in the background, and the progress of the updates can be viewed in the Android notification area.

Send to a Friend

You can tell your friends about shareAnywhere with the Send to a Friend button on the app's main menu. When you press it you will be presented with a list of the apps on your phone which support sending text based messages. This commonly includes email and SMS. You may have more apps which support text based messaging, for example social networking website apps. Choose the app you wish to use to send a message.

The process of sending your message will differ depending on the app you use, but most commonly you should find some text saying that you think your friend would like to try shareAnywhere, and a link to the Android Marketplace will be provided. You can either send this as is, or personalize it as appropriate.
